Spicy Honey Cake

Now we give two ways to make a delicious and spicy honey cake that is soft and golden in color. This kind of cake is perfect for any occasion, festive or casual.

One advantage of this cake is its ease of manufacture, as well as the fact that no strange decorations are required for this. The spicy honey cake impresses with the simplicity of the flavors.

You can replace any material you don’t like.  This will allow you to adapt the cake to different diets – however, you should keep the honey!

The second recipe includes mulled wine – you can use a non-alcoholic or alcoholic product or make a honey cake completely without mulled wine.

Vegetable milk can be used instead of cow’s milk to make the cake lower in calories and the taste of honey more pronounced. But because milk contains fat, the cake that contains it is richer, denser, and wetter.

As for the spices, in this recipe they smell wonderful. Some use a little more ginger to enhance the spiciness, but you can add spices to your own taste.

Don’t be afraid to use spices in the preparation of desserts, as the end result is usually delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 orange peel grated
  • 7 dl of honey
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • Slightly ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cloves
  • 12 dl flour
  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 7 dl vegetable milk or cow’s milk
  • ½ tablespoons ground anise or anise seeds
  • Fresh orange juice, raisins and nuts whole or in grits (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil (as needed)

Manufacturing

  1. Preheat oven to 180 ºC.
  2. Grate the orange peel and set aside.
  3. Put the dry ingredients in a bowl (without the orange peel) and mix them into a smooth mixture.
  4. Make a hole in the middle of the ingredients where you pour the liquid ingredients i.e. milk and honey. (If you use mulled wine, it should also be added at this point – instructions are below.)
  5. Also add the orange peel and mix the ingredients with an electric mixer to get a lump-free and even mixture.
  6. Allow the ingredients to settle for 15 minutes at room temperature. The mixture has a spicy, strong and pleasant aroma.
  7. Grease the cake pan with vegetable oil and pour in the mixture. Smooth the surface with a spoon.
  8. Put the cake in the oven and bake it for about 30 minutes. When the surface is elevated and golden brown, inject the center of the cake with a fork or toothpick. If the dough does not stick, the cake is ready. Otherwise, leave the cake in the oven for another ten minutes and repeat if necessary.
  9. When the cake is ready, take it out of the oven and allow it to cool slightly at room temperature under a clean, dry cloth.
  10. Carefully turn it over on a platter and allow to cool for at least ten minutes.
  11. Now that the honey cake is ready to eat, sprinkle a little fresh orange juice on it – you can also add a few slices of orange.

Spicy honey cake with mulled wine

Honey cake is often consumed in Germany, but also in France and Belgium. The original recipe contains glühwein , which is a mulled wine type winter drink.

Mulled wine mixture for honey cake

  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 lemon peel
  • 1 orange peel
  • 7 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ tablespoons ginger
  • 3 glasses of mulled wine or red wine

Manufacturing

  • Put the pan on low heat and add the wine. Do not allow the wine to boil.
  • Add the spices and mix the liquid with a spoon.
  • Add the sugar and stir slowly to completely dissolve the sugar.
  • Strain and collect the liquid.
  • Prepare the spicy honey jacket according to the instructions described above, and add the Glühwein in step 4.

The spicy honey cake is a very simple but really popular dessert – it tastes absolutely great.

Usually the cake is not decorated, but you can add a layer of dark chocolate or sprinkle on the surface coconut flakes or icing sugar, or even both. You can also put nuts, seeds and dried fruit.
