However, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t eat it every day. The fat in avocados is very healthy for the body (as long as it is eaten in moderation). In addition, avocados have countless other benefits!

  • Avocados are high in fiber. Half a deciliter of it contains about 3 grams. This is important for appetite suppression, proper blood sugar levels and digestion.
  • Vitamin A in avocados helps keep the immune system strong and the skin healthy. Half a deciliter contains about 85 IU of vitamin A.
  • One serving contains 3 grams of polyunsaturated and 1 gram of monounsaturated fats. For this reason, avocado is very good for the heart. Thus, eating guacamole reduces the risk of heart problems.
  • The fats in avocado help absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and keep you full for longer.
  • Avocados are high in nutrients. This way, your body stays better saturated with the right dose and you don’t satisfy your hunger with unhealthy and high-calorie foods.

Avocado is the main ingredient in guacamole.

This Mexican dip exists in several different versions, depending on what region it comes from. This is to be expected, as avocados grow almost everywhere. Some other ingredients, on the other hand, are more local and not as widespread.

This recipe is more versatile:

  • 1 chilli
  • Salt (for seasoning)
  • 1 onion
  • 4 ripe avocados
  • Fresh coriander without stalks (for seasoning)
  • 1 lime
  • 1 medium tomato

How to make it

Homemade guacamole is easy to prepare.
  1. Wash and chop tomato, onion, chili pepper and coriander.
  2. Put these ingredients in the bowl in which you make the guacamole.
  3. Make sure the avocados are sufficiently ripe. Cut them in half and remove the stone.
  4. Scrape the flesh with a spoon and place it in a bowl.
  5. Add lime juice and a pinch of salt.
  6. Mix the ingredients well together with a spoon or fork.

Traditionally, guacamole has small pieces of avocado, so don’t mash it too much. However, if you want it to be just smooth, you can mix it in a food processor or with a stick mixer.

If you don’t eat all the guacamole at once, you can put it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
